Is Waist Training Dangerous?

Or is wearing a waist trainer safe? Waist training, if done right and responsibly, is totally SAFE. My belief in things like these is anything done excessively, is definitely not okay. So if you wear your waist cinchers properly and you are taking care of your body the right way, then it is absolutely safe. The only side effect would be having a sexier and curvier waistline.

There are questions about waist trainers altering the insides of your body or moving your organs around. Wearing the waist trainer properly, within the time limits suggested cannot possibly do that. Even if you wear your garment 2 hours longer than what is recommended, it is not possible for your organs to move so much. The most that a waist cincher could do is slightly make a curve around your waist through time of wearing it. I have been wearing my Curves Waist Cincher for almost 10 months now and although I my curves are significantly visible, it is not so much that it makes my waistline from 36 (my starting measurement) to 20″ or 14” (extreme).

When a woman gets pregnant, her body changes to accommodate the baby. It slightly pushes some organs. It is a natural process. But it goes back once the baby is out. Wearing a bodyshaper like a waist trainer is kind of like that. It will not change it so dramatically that it becomes dangerous.

With that said, it is also important that you listen to your own body. Only you understand your body the best. You know your limits. If you’re having difficulty breathing, remove the garment immediately. If you feel uncomfortable, stop wearing your waist trainer, take a rest and wear it again next time. Taking it to the extreme, especially when you are wearing a corset, is different though. There may be concerns that you have to discuss with your doctor. But if you just want to have that slight curve on your body, or if you want back support to keep your back straight, then there’s nothing to worry about.

Just keep in mind the following:

  • Don’t wear your waist cincher for more than 10 hours a day. Wearing it longer than that doesn’t do much. It is more effective to wear it consistently, everyday for 8 hours.
  • Never sleep with your waist cincher on. If something happens and you wake up short of breath, you don’t want anything that’s keeping you from breathing properly.
  • The waist trainer is compressing your body. So doing cardio workout which makes you out of breath, will become more difficult if you are wearing a waist trainer.
